Rick Burns ( in background) has spent nearly 30 years at Loara High School, where he has coached football, basketball, soccer, golf and tennis in addition to teaching United States History and Ethnic Studies. He coached year-round in multiple sports for over a decade at one stretch. Rick went to Santiago High School, where he was one of the best athletes in school history, earning honors in multiple sports. He was actually named co-MVP of the league in basketball despite the fact that his team went 0-10 in league. Rick would go on post high school to star at Santa Ana College as a quarterback, play at Long Beach State under George Allen, and eventually play professionally in Europe. Rick has also competed in many ½ ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13 mile run) competitions, earning a podium finish in his division multiple times.
